Not Quite "The Real Plastic Surgeons"

A few news stories we've seen floating around the national press have reminded us recently of something that occasionally irks even the most even-tempered of widely respected  board certified plastic surgeons. It's the exaggerated and often rather bizarre ideas people have about cosmetic procedures.

While probably most press coverage focuses on plastic surgery before and after results for celebrities -- and the eternal question of who has and hasn't had work done -- a lot of reality shows, movies, and TV shows create a rather distorted picture of the reality of how things go at most real-life cosmetic surgery offices.

What people often forget is that the primary purpose of most media is not to inform, but to entertain. Therefore, a lot of outright distortion and weirdness gets in. Most specifically, what we'd really like people to understand is that plastic surgery really is for anybody who thinks they can benefit from it. While we at We Know Beauty are proud to offer the services of some of the world's best plastic surgeons, you don't know need to be a famed film/TV actor, a super-successful rock musician, or jet-setting heiress to benefit from plastic surgery. Most of our clients are ordinary professionals, from lawyers and CPAs to small business owners and schoolteachers, who simply want to make sure they obtain the best plastic surgery possible.

Of course, since we are in Southern California, we get our share of entertainment industry people, but for every working actress or well-known agent, there's an animation writer, unknown voice actor, or union grip who's also benefiting from the vast skills of We Know Beauty doctors. Really, cosmetic surgery is for people who are, in most ways, a lot like you. If you think you can benefit from a cosmetic procedure, give us a call at 310-300-1500.

Testimonials from We Know Beauty Doctors Tell Touching Tales

There's an unfortunate stereotype out there about people who elect to have a plastic surgery, that these people have low self-esteem and simply focus all of their hate on one part of their body. Here at We Know Beauty, a network of board certified plastic surgeons specializing in concierge-style service, we know that this isn't the case. Many times, as you can read on our testimonials page, our patients feel that they look great now but they want to look even better.

For example, gummy bear breast implant surgery can have corrective applications (after loss of breast volume due to pregnancy or as a reconstructive technique). However, many women who seek out a breast augmentation simply want to feel confident in their chest in every setting, whether it is the beach or at work. These women could love their breasts now but desire a chest that is a little more proportionate for their body shape.

Of course, wanting a physical improvement through surgery should not be taken lightly; where you go truly matters. The best plastic surgeons working for We Know Beauty are some of the most experienced and compassionate doctors in the field. At a complimentary consultation with a We Know Beauty surgeon, your surgeon will perfectly detail what a procedure can do for you physically as well as make sure that you're prepared mentally for the upcoming changes in your body. What Turkeys Can Teach Us

While we humans may strongly prefer the taste of turkeys to their appearance, it seems that even board certified plastic surgeons have something to learn about beauty from these birds. A new study published just yesterday in PLoS Genetics, a scientific journal, has a new revelation on the nature of beauty, at least among members of a particular species if not to those of who exist outside the species. In other words, a turkey might not look like much to you and me, but to another turkey...

The research basically goes to why, when all of us humans are essentially similar genetically, there are obviously enormous differences when it comes to how we perceive each other in terms of beauty, male or female. We all know, when it comes to good looks, there's a pretty wide gulf between, say, movie star Brad Pitt and Kentucky senator Mitch McConnell even if their DNA helices might not be all that different. So, let's just say that we're all turkeys -- what would make the most amazing plastic surgery before and after results? Who is the turkey Brad and the turkey McConnell?

Well, according to the study it has to do not what sets of genes we have, but how they are expressed. More interestingly, though, it was the turkeys that had the most typically male expressions of those genes that became dominant. In other words, while two turkey brothers might have very similar genes, the one with the more classically male turkey expression of the genes was likely to be dominant and lead the way in mating and siring offspring. Studies are upcoming on female turkeys, but right now the smart money is on the most traditionally female looking turkeys getting their pick of the most desirable males.

While it's obvious that even the very best plastic surgeons can't transform even the most attractive male turkey into a peacock, understanding why it is we perceive certain qualities as attractive on a genetic level might help us to understand just how to bring out the most attractive visual qualities in our patients. It's a clue, albeit a small one.

If you think now it might be time to have the very best plastic surgeons in town bring out the best in you, you just might want to call We Know Beauty at 310-300-1500 or visit us www.weknowbeauty.com.

If It's Worth It To You, It's Worth It!

There's been a spate of news stories over the last week or so about perceptions that people have of plastic surgery patients. Surveys, assuming they're accurately done and intelligently framed, are always interesting, but often have an enormous "so what?" factor. The fact of the matter is that people who obtain plastic surgeries from the very best plastic surgeons like those here at We Know Beauty will feel better about themselves, and that will make them look better to others.

We've all seen the amazing plastic surgery before and after pictures and been truly impressed by the skill and artistry of a really outstanding surgeon. The distinction between "more youthful" and "more attractive" is pretty much so much angels dancing on the head of the proverbial pin given those results. Even the very finest of  board certified plastic surgeons has only so much latitude. Plastic surgery can make an enormous difference, but only nature can turn a truly ugly duckling into an actual swan. What we can do is bring out the best in people's appearance, which in turn will make them feel better...and that will improve their appearance even more.

If you think it might be time for you to obtain a cosmetic procedure, now may be the time. Give us a call at 310-300-1500.

Plastic Surgery in the News: August 2nd Edition

Here at We Know Beauty, network of top-ranked board certified plastic surgeons in Southern California, we supplement our knowledge of plastic surgery by reading the most recent industry news. This week, there are two big stories that have emerged: a study on if plastic surgery makes you prettier and a revelation by Bravo star Patti Stanger.

The first news story comes from New York, where a doctor showed pictures of people before and after a procedure to monitor their attractiveness/youthfulness. The results showed that those who received plastic surgery were ranked about the same before and after on a beauty scale, though they did appear years younger. The science behind the study is debatable (no people saw both a before and after picture and judged them against each other), but we can't help but think the study misses the point.

For many of our patients at We Know Beauty, the tangible results of the procedure aren't as important as the transformation in self-confidence. It's like saying that a gummy bear breast implant only serves to make the breasts larger, when it's really about making a woman feel confident, beautiful, and no longer self-conscious. We truly believe that this restored self-worth makes women look and feel much more beautiful.

This was evidenced by Patti Stanger's recent post-plastic surgery revelation. The Millionaire Matchmaker herself revealed that she had a breast reduction and lift, an eye lift, and a series of Botox injections. While we think she looks rejuvenated and vibrant, we really appreciate what she said about her internal transformation, "I felt skinny and young again!" That's what we like to hear at We Know Beauty!
