Looking Back at the Year and Accepting our Decisions

The holiday season, especially the days leading up to the new year, are filled with reflection and sometimes with regret. The team here at We Know Beauty thinks it is OK to look back at the past year with a critical eye, but we ultimately believe that we need to have a compassionate view of our choices that probably felt like the right decision at the time. Then, if we're not happy with what happened, we can assess the reality and move on—without that horrible sense regret.

This self-reflection process can be true of most things, but we bring it up more specifically in regards to revision plastic surgery. When a patient has gotten plastic surgery that is detrimental to their beauty (or simply didn't notice any change), then they will sometimes give up completely on attaining what they had originally dreamed of before getting the first procedure. We Know Beauty encourages these men and women to not give up on beauty and to seek a secondary or tertiary procedure, whether it is revision rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, or any other operation.

Revision procedures require the skilled hands of the best plastic surgeons like those available at We Know Beauty. Many times, the surgeon will have to navigate through issues like scaring, less remaining original structural tissue to work with, and much more. The board certified surgeons of We Know Beauty have performed numerous revision procedures and can show many examples of their past work in a complimentary consultation. Let's Make Body Shaming a Thing of the Past

In a piece published earlier today by the Examiner, famed actress Sarah Jessica Parker lamented a recently circulated tabloid exposé that took aim at her appearance, including the suggestion that she had plastic surgery to improve the look of her hands.

The goal of any Beverly Hills plasticsurgery should be to empower others, making them feel satisfied and confident about their bodies. Body shaming should never be used as a motivational tool to provoke people to alter their appearance through surgery. Unfortunately, as celebrity gossip columns continue to accuse stars of having secret procedures done with increasing regularity, the reality is that body shaming is an all too common occurrence in our society.

We Know Beauty, a leading network of board certified plastic surgeons in Los Angeles, has been been at the forefront of high quality cosmetic procedures for more than a decade. If you or a loved one has been shamed into thinking your body isn't good enough, please do not allow that kind of negativity to be a factor in considering a tummy tuck. Instead, call us today for a complimentary consultation by dialing 310-300-1500, and one of our respected physicians will sit down with you and explore how best you can resolve your cosmetic goals.

Keeping it Real

We were looking at a Huffington Post piece recently comparing beauty advertisements from long ago with more recent ads, and we couldn't help being reminded of how often our expectations for the level of beauty we achieve might not always be terribly realistic. That's why, as doctors who are constantly striving to be top plastic surgeons in every possible way, we work hard to ensure that patients have realistic expectations when it comes to surgical outcomes.

We Know Beauty has a long history of providing the kind of outstanding rhinoplasty Beverly Hills and greater Los Angeles is known for. At the same time, not every person can have the "perfect" nose of an Grace Kelly or a Brad Pitt. In fact, even if it were practical, not everyone would look good with Ms. Kelly's nose plastered in the middle of their face. The art of what we do is making sure that people look like the best version of themselves, not someone else.

The same applies to procedures like breast augmentations or a tummy tuck -- the perfect breasts of this or that film star or the amazingly flat stomachs of the models you see in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition or just not achievable for everyone -- sometimes not even for the models and film stars in question. (Thank you, Photoshop!)

Of course, we really can make some pretty impressive improvements in a person's appearance as long as your expectations are reasonable. To find out more about what we can achieve for you, it's never a bad idea to call We Know Beauty at 310-300-1500.

New "Botched" Plastic Surgery Show Reveals Prevalence of Revision Procedures

Next year, E! will be airing a show called "Botched", which will follow two patients an episode as they seek to undo or fix their incorrectly performed plastic surgery. While the show will inevitably have its share of train-wreck and feel-good moments, the Beverly Hills plastic surgery experts at We Know Beauty recognize that botched plastic surgery is a heartbreaking experience which seems to become more and more frequent.

Most likely, the patients to be featured are suffering due to the negligence of a prior surgeon, who may not have the capabilities to perform complex surgery, may have recommended surgery that isn't right for the patient's body, or may have used substandard methods. These issues, in addition to discount plastic surgery abroad, are making revision plastic surgery an increasingly common occurrence. Here at We Know Beauty, it's our duty to pair qualified, talented, and safe board certified plastic surgeons with our clients.

In the unfortunate case where a patient needs a revision procedure, We Know Beauty can provide the best plastic surgeons for the operation. Revision plastic surgery (sometimes called secondary or tertiary plastic surgery, depending on the number of previous procedures) requires an even more delicate and skilled touch than the original operation. For instance, a secondary rhinoplasty will have much less nasal tissue to work with and a revision breast augmentation may have to deal with lingering scar tissue while addressing the botched implant. Luckily, the doctors of We Know Beauty have years of experience performing revision procedures and can help our patients get the results they wanted from their first procedure.

Surgery for the Right Reasons

At We Know Beauty, we're in the plastic surgery business, so our top plastic surgeons quite obviously don't have any moral objections to people wanting to foster a more positive self-image through cosmetic surgical procedures. At the same time, we believe very strongly that pervasive objectification culture that exists in today is just plain wrong.

A current and clear example of this is being covered this week by Plastic Surgery Portal. Venezuelan mannequin manufacturer Eliezer Álvarez is reportedly under fire for making alterations to his mannequins that promote and exploit many of the stereotypes and impossible expectations placed on women's bodies in society today.

Objectification is wrong, no matter whom the object is. Cosmetic surgery is ideal for people who want to improve their self-esteem and make a positive change in their life. But that is a decision that should be made in good conscience and for the right reasons—not out of shame or feelings of inadequacy. At We Know Beauty, our team of board certified plastic surgeons will sit down with clients for a thorough consultation to explore the best possible course of action in each individual case. Whether you are interested in a rhinoplasty or a tummy tuck in Beverly Hills, We Know Beauty can help improve your life without your feeling disrespected or humiliated about your body.
