Eye of the Beholder

What does it mean to be beautiful? Who gets to define what beauty is? These are the kinds of questions we are asking after reading some fairly disturbing online attacks of a South Korean TV reporter who underwent a cosmetic surgical procedure.

The aforementioned woman, thus far unnamed by the news sources covering her story, has become an Internet sensation since plastic surgery before and after photographs of her significantly altered chin went viral. The photos indicate she had the shape of her chin narrowed to reflect contemporary sensibilities of what it means to be feminine in many east Asian cultures today. Countless verbal assaults have since cropped up, calling the reporter 'deformed', 'scary', 'ruined' and other similar epithets.

Whether you are interested in getting gummy bear breast implants or are in need of revision plastic surgery to correct a botched operation, you shouldn't feel obligated to justify your choices to anyone but yourself. The board certified plastic surgeons at We Know Beauty recognize there is no universal standard of beauty, and we are inspired daily by the dreams and determination of our patients to provide them with an extra boost of self-confidence through our craft. There is no reason you should feel ashamed for wanting to be the very best version of yourself—no matter what that looks like to anybody else. Call us today at 310-300-1500 for a complimentary consultation; it could be the best decision you'll ever make!

What is "Real Beauty" Anyway?

As board certified plastic surgeons who are involved with people's appearance on a daily basis, we've had to give standards of beauty a great deal of thought. While traditional standards of attractiveness for both women and men have, in fact, been under the microscope for decades now, the debut of the Dove "Real Beauty" advertising campaign some ten years ago has given far more people food for thought about what we all regard as beauty and who decides what is beautiful.

This charming video, apparently a shorter version of a longer film debuting at Sundance this year, is a good example of this now 10 year-old campaign's approach: So, has this campaign made a difference? We don't really know but, as our patients explore the best of our plastic surgery before and after pictures, we've noticed a subtle change in recent years. Fewer women are trying to look like that absolutely perfect looking film star or supermodel and more are, it appears, simply wanting to look like the best version of themselves that they can imagine. Indeed, in our opinion, the very best plastic surgeons are the ones who are most talented at bringing out the very real beauty that all of us possess.

If you would like to know how the We Know Beauty team can help bring out your natural beauty, please call 310-300-1500. We're looking forward to hearing from you.

"Yes We Can" Use Plastic Surgery to Boost Confidence and Beauty!

Michelle Obama turns 50 today, but you certainly wouldn't know it to look at her - the esteemed Ms. Obama looks absolutely radiant in every photo - and as the president's wife, that's a lot of photographs! Ms. Obama has always made a health a priority in her own life, as well as championing effective weight loss and healthy habits in the nation's youth, through her "Let's Move" campaign.

All of this no doubt has helped her to maintain her stunning figure and brilliant glow. However, the First Lady recently acknowledged that she is open to utilizing cosmetic treatments and plastic surgery to maintain her timelessly beautiful looks, a fact that the team of board certified plastic surgeons at We Know Beauty couldn't be happier to learn.

"Women should have the freedom to do whatever they need to do to feel good about themselves," Ms. Obama said in a recent People magazine interview. Though the First Lady notes that she is not currently looking to undergo treatment, she is leaving the door open. "I've...learned to never say never," says Ms. Obama.

While she certainly seems to be doing an incredible job on her own, we want the First Lady to know that our team of the best plastic surgeons at We Know Beauty is always available to offer first rate treatment. Whether you're a homemaker looking to rejuvenate your youth through Botox or a celebrity looking for a rhinoplasty, Beverly Hills-based We Know Beauty will provide the aesthetic change you can believe in!

Making Dreams Come True

Renata is the name of a 15-year-old girl making headlines this week because of her nose. Until recently, Renata suffered from hemi-facial microsomia, a condition that made her nose angle to the left. She was viciously bullied for her looks in middle school, and the insults from her peers became so hurtful and emotionally debilitating that her mother pulled her from public school and chose to home school her instead. But now, thanks to a New York-based nonprofit group called the Little Baby Face Foundation, Renata (and similar children from low-income families with facial deformities) has been given a new lease on life through privately subsidized corrective cosmetic surgery.

After her plastic surgery, before and after interviews indicate that Renata is exceedingly pleased with the results of her procedure. The staff at We Know Beauty are too, and we believe that what the best plastic surgeons in New York are doing for surgery candidates of the Little Baby Face Foundation represents exactly the same kind of vision we have for our patients.

Whether you are in need of a corrective rhinoplasty or simply want a  facelift in Beverly Hills, our top notch team of cosmetic surgeons are prepared to do what it takes to make you feel confident and whole. It's regrettable that people are objectified by others for the way they look, but all of us at We Know Beauty are grateful that we can make a positive difference in the lives of others with our work. For a free consultation, call our Los Angeles offices today at 310-300-1500.

What are Your Beauty Resolutions?

Just because our staff includes some of the best plastic surgeons in the nation doesn't mean we don't have New Year's resolutions. But what about your personal goals for 2014?

Resolutions gets a certain amount of flack around this time every year, but we think that the calendar can be a useful device for gauging our progress in all kinds of areas, including beauty. Of course, when most people think of goals having to do with how attractive we are, weight loss is by far the most common (and most challenging). However, a healthier weight should not be the only target you might think when you consider creating a new you in 2014. Many people look at other ways they can improve their appearance, from sprucing up their wardrobe, to taking a hard look at  the cosmetics they use, and seeing if any improvements can be made. Non weight-related health goals which affect our appearance, like quitting smoking and being more careful about our exposure to the sun, are also laudable.

Naturally, as board certified plastic surgeons, it's hard for us not to think about what we do. We do know that many patients unnecessarily delay having procedures they have already basically decided they want. If you're sure you'll feel better after having a plastic surgery, putting it off really only means delaying feeling better about yourself, and there's no reason for that. If you're looking for encouragement, the plastic surgery before and after pictures on our website are a good place to start.

If you've decided if 2014 is your year for a cosmetic procedure, there's no reason to procrastinate another moment. It's time to give our outstanding We Know Beauty team a call at 310-300-1500. We're looking forward to hearing from you.
