At We Know Beauty, our reputation as the top plastic surgeons in Southern California comes from our years of incredible success in various cosmetic procedures. Our board certified plastic surgeons are among the best and most experienced around the globe. That's why, when stories relating to plastic surgery make national headlines, we follow them closely whenever possible.
That's why it should come as no surprise that we've been fascinated with the story that broke this week regarding Angelina Jolie's preventative double mastectomy. Once a woman chooses to undergo this procedure, one of her major concerns is almost always the reconstruction surgery needed to reform the breast tissue that has been removed. As was reported by Fox News in an interview with Dr. Richard Winters, vice chairman of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey, there are many considerations to take into account for each surgery.
For example, a woman must decide if it will be 'nipple-sparing' or 'skin sparing' surgery, wherein the nipple is left while the breast tissue is removed. "With prophylactic surgery, you virtually always do an immediate reconstruction', says Dr. Winters. "Then, you have to decide on a technique. The first is the reconstruction, which involves an implant. The other type involves only autologous tissue - your own tissue'. Dr. Winters goes on to say patients who receive the procedure face less than a 1% to 2% chance of having serious complication, and less than 5% to 10% chance of having minor complications.
At We Know Beauty, many of the best plastic surgeons on our team are similarly experienced in reconstructive surgery, a field that is related to some of the cosmetic procedures we offer. As this story unfolds, we're happy to see the positive message of preventive and cosmetic surgery to fight the harmful effects of illnesses, and we're proud to offer such amazing and life-changing cosmetic surgeries.

Hudson and Hawn Reflect on Beauty this Mother's Day
With Mother's Day upon us, the team at We Know Beauty has found ourselves reflective of mother-daughter relationships. For many, their mother offered their first glimpse into what true beauty could look like, and how warm, happy and confident it could make them feel.
Despite, or perhaps because of our reputation as the best plastic surgeons in Southern California and among the best on the globe, we are always fascinated by the views of individuals who seem to have truly personified beauty over the years. That definition certainly describes the iconic mother-daughter pairing of Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson.
In a recent Mother's Day-themed article from the Associated Press, Hawn and Hudson discuss their lives in the spot light and their reputation for incredible beauty in their respective eras. When Hudson was asked what the best beauty advice she ever received from her mother was, she stated "beauty is an inside-out job and I think when you are connected to the things that you love, whether it be your children or your creativity, that they bring out a level or joy and circulate all the endorphins in your brain and them you have that, that's when beauty starts to reveal itself.
Our team of board certified plastic surgeons at We Know Beauty couldn't agree more. That's why each of our top plastic surgeons works to ensure the procedures our patients receive enhance their self-confidence in a way that is rejuvenating and truly life-changing. When you are genuinely happy with your physical beauty, it can influence your inner beauty and vice versa. This Mother's Day, celebrate your mother's inner and outer beauty and remember to contact the doctors at We Know Beauty for incredible cosmetic surgery in Southern California.

Cocktails and You
Depending on when you read this, you're either about to enter or have just survived a weekend with two major excuses for drinking built into them. Tomorrow, May 4, is Derby Day, with its Mint Juleps for horseracing fans the world over. The next day is Mexican-themed Cinco de Mayo, with its cold cervezas and tasty margaritas for people of all ancestries.
We hate to say this, but board certified plastic surgeons are human too, and we have nothing against an occasional drink. However, as a blog dedicated to beauty, we do have to warn that too much boozing can definitely make you less attractive, as well as a lot less generally healthy. Sure, everyone looks a little more suave holding a martini glass in their hand...and we all know that booze can, at times, make other people look more attractive in a way that can make even the best plastic surgeons a bit jealous. That doesn't mean the effect works in reverse.
First of all, and most obviously, alcohol is about as fattening as all those sugary sodas you're constantly being warned about -- and we're talking about the less sweet drinks like a gin or vodka martini. When you start adding very sweet liqueurs, fruit juices, syrups, and all the rest you're talking about some extremely fattening beverages. Second of all, if you're drinking a lot, and consistently, alcohol can damage such important bodily organs as your liver, your kidneys, and your skin. Sure, you're liver and kidneys are a bit hard to see -- and not under the purview of even top plastic surgeons -- but trust us when say that damaging them does no favors to your appearance. Still, the drying out of your skin and hair, not to say the bloating that too much boozing can cause, should be enough of a concern to put the breaks on drunkenness for any beauty-conscious woman or man.
All that being said, we really don't want to be killjoys. All we suggest is that you keep in mind the words of legendary food writer M.F.K. Fisher regarding martinis: "One is just right, two is too much, and three is never enough."

Healthy Dietary Changes Complement Plastic Surgery
On the Huffington Post yesterday, a New York City plastic surgeon (Dr. Tornambe) wrote an intriguing piece about the role diet plays in improving the results of his aesthetic surgical procedures. Like the top plastic surgeons of We Know Beauty, the author recommends reaching an ideal weight before a cosmetic surgery, especially in the case of liposuction (which is for shaping, not a "weight loss tool" as he writes).
His diet is "essentially a modification of the Mediterranean diet," which is heavy on whole grains, vegetables, lean protein, healthy fats, and even provides for a nightly glass of wine. The board certified plastic surgeons here at We Know Beauty can't necessarily speak for this diet over another (nor should anyone embark on a huge dietary change without consulting a physician), but we do closely monitor every single one of our patients after surgery to guarantee that they transition healthily into their new bodies.
Dr. Tornambe also posits that his diet helps with the healing process by reducing the body's response to surgery, inflammation. Part of being the best plastic surgeons around means that the We Know Beauty doctors do everything we can to minimize post-surgical discomfort. Because of the experience of our surgeons, complications are all but eradicated. Then, we make careful recommendations for each of our patients that will ease their full recovery.

New Research Discovers the 'Ideal' Combination of Chin and Nose Surgery
At We Know Beauty, we take pride in our position as the most trusted facility for cosmetic surgery in Southern California, and our top plastic surgeons are always fascinated to learn of new advancements and news stories relating to cosmetic surgery.
That's why we were fascinated to learn of the results of a study, reported by Web MD, and conducted by Italian researchers lead by Dr. Dario Bertossi, an associate professor in the department of surgery at the University of Verona.
Dr. Bertossi and his team learned that patients changing the nose and chin simultaneously may provide the most satisfying results. Furthermore, success of the combination rhinoplasty and genioplasty appears to continue long term with minimal change or instability in the shape of the patient's chin. "We can for sure improve facial profile with stable results
As the best plastic surgeons in Los Angeles or any other region, the team at We Know Beauty was happy to see quantifiable proof of the aesthetic concepts we have mastered through so many successful procedures that provide new self-confidence to our patients. Our board certified plastic surgeons offer first-rate services all over Southern California, but also specialize in out-of-state patients. In fact, now that they've discovered the perfect chin-to-nose ratio, we may even end up working on some of the Italian researchers who conducted the study!
For information on our rhinoplasty, genioplasty, or any other state-of-the-art procedures performed by our incredible team, contact We Know Beauty today for a complimentary consultation.

Not 19 Forever, but....
If you're out here in Southern California it's hard to avoid mentions of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and it's impact on all things cultural, including the fashion and beauty scene every time you turn on the TV, radio, or computer. Heck, even our board certified plastic surgeons -- not always the biggest culture vultures at any age -- are aware of it.
Still, since we're talking about four days of mostly very loud music in the baking sun and during some pretty cold nights most years, not to mention relentless partying. That's means we're talking about mostly young people under 30 and maybe under 26 or so. Certainly, the fashion and beauty tips we're seeing on various websites may mostly be aimed at a younger audience who may be more than a few years away from considering who might be the best plastic surgeons for a face lift.
At the same time, just because none of us want to end up the "creepy old guy" (or gal) at the club, we still want to be able to check out our favorite music and look good no matter how old we might be and how relatively settled our life style may become. Also, of course, ideas of what age is, and what's appropriate for certain age groups, is changing to a degree -- even physically.
Just look around you, people look far younger today than prior generation and, for better or worse, they're maturing more slowly. Even as pampered, presumably super health/looks conscious movie stars, it would shock people of prior generations to learn that Julia Roberts is 45, Brad Pitt is less than a year away from his 50th birthday, and that Tobey Maguire is 37 and still looks like he could be playing teenage Spiderman/Peter Parker. Of course, add in the work of top plastic surgeons like our world renown MDs at We Know Beauty and you can shave a few more years off our looks. Really, though, the idea is not so much to deny our age, but to look like the best possible version of ourselves at any age.
Life goes on, and time waits for no man, but as long as we're here on the planet, there's no reason we can't enjoy ourselves as much as possible and look as good as possible. Right?

Is "Revenge Surgery" Healthy?
An interesting topic of discussion happened recently on The Dr. Oz Show surrounding the idea of plastic surgery after an unpleasant divorce. Referring to any type of procedure for this reason as "revenge surgery," Dr. Oz shared points with other plastic surgeons. He thinks women at this time are too vulnerable emotionally to get these procedures, while the other doctors suggested that plastic surgery at this time can boost the emotional spirits of a woman at her lowest. Everybody there, however, seemed to support some sort of psychological screening before a procedure, but were divided on the topic of discounts for divorcées.
Of course, plastic surgery for the sole purpose of getting back at an ex is always the wrong reason. The top plastic surgeons of We Know Beauty (and we'd hope everywhere) believe that cosmetic procedures should only be to improve a person's self-satisfaction. If plastic surgery can restore self-confidence to a woman and she is psychologically sound, then we see no reason why a woman shouldn't go for it!
Many times, especially after rearing children, a woman may want to restore some of her feminine shape through a breast augmentation and/or lift. One of the best plastic surgeons in breast enhancements, Louis Mandris, MD has performed a wide-range of these procedures. Dr. Louis Mandris has restored self-confidence, happiness, and aesthetic beauty to many of these women, with one stating "my breasts look beautiful and perfect" and another saying "my boobs are fantastic." Check out the testimonials on We Know Beauty's website to read more!
