To Botch, or Not To Botch?

How many of you watch the E! reality show "Botched?"  We are fascinated with the program here at our Beverly Hills plastic surgery office. The show follows self-improvers who have undergone bad plastic surgeries as new sets of doctors try to repair butt tucks, boob jobs, and Justin Bieberfications — yes,someone spent more than $100,000 to look like the pop star — gone wrong. We hear that Season 2's cases will include a man who tried to look more Asian and a woman who sought to repair damage from a flesh-eating virus.
We are having a debate over whether this series is giving the best plastic surgeons around town a good name or a bad one. On the one hand, the show is illustrating plastic surgery gone bad. But on the other hand, they are showing great plastic surgery from the two surgeons who end up repairing the "botched" jobs. Each episode does have a happy ending by displaying a positive outcome and true transformation. So maybe it helps the plastic surgery field ;)

Never Nude?

Looking at the title of today' post, fans of the cult TV hit, "Arrested Development," will immediately think of the condition suffered by Dr. Tobias Funke (David Cross), who had a crippling fear of being completely naked, and therefore wore cut-off jeans underneath his clothes at all times. That's not what we mean, since the real-life condition of gymnophobia has very little to do with our type of outstanding Beverly Hills plastic surgery.

No, we were actually inspired by a new of an exhibit on the history of underwear currently underway at Australia's Bendigo Art Gallery. It occurs to us that, when we think of ourselves unclothed, we probably more often imagine how we look while not completely naked but just mostly unclothed.

A History of Independence

The July 4th holiday is just about upon us and we wish you a happy one!

Yes, it's Independence Day here in Southern California and perhaps the first really big weekend of summer bikini season.

On the surface, it's true that the spending time this time of year hanging out in the surf and sun might seem more related to our style of superb Beverly Hills plastic surgery than American History 101. At the same time, we really think that many people who come to board-certified plastic surgeons like ourselves are very much part of the spirit of this day.

We really don't think it's that much of a stretch to connect our work at We Know Beauty to the same American tradition of independence from outmoded conventions and mores that led the 13 original U.S. colonies to declare themselves free of the domination of England's King George III. After all, at one time it might have been deemed in some way heretical to try and improve upon the appearance we were born with.

In a more deeply personal sense, however, for better or worse we tend to think of our "natural" appearance as somehow connected with who we really are.
