Teenagers Getting Breast Reductions More than Ever

The Daily Mail recently published an article about breast reductions in America and women getting them under the age of 18. Many feel that these girls are too young to be making a life-changing decision, especially because the procedure is often considered optional. As some of the best plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills, the doctors at We Know Beauty want what every doctor should want: the best for his or her patient.

It's an interesting discussion to have. The team here at We Know Beauty, like other board certified plastic surgeons, generally think suitable candidates for a breast reduction share some of the following characteristics:
  • Out of proportion breast size,
  • Pain as a result of breast size (i.e. neck, back, shoulders),
  • Pain from fibrous breast tissue,
  • Skin irritation underneath breasts,
  • Limitations on physical activities due to breast size,
  • Lack of confidence about breasts, and
  • Unevenly sized breasts.
Teenagers can surely have these traits. Plus, their bodies are able to heal at a faster rate than older patients, making the surgery and recovery better processes. Surgery at a younger age could also prevent effects that arise from having long-term breast pain. Sometimes, even, health insurance will cover a breast reduction.

Every case is different, however, and no doctor should ever perform surgery on an underage patient without parental consent. To learn more about the stellar team and the procedures done at We Know Beauty, visit www.weknowbeauty.com.
