Plastic Surgery in the News: August 2nd Edition

Here at We Know Beauty, network of top-ranked board certified plastic surgeons in Southern California, we supplement our knowledge of plastic surgery by reading the most recent industry news. This week, there are two big stories that have emerged: a study on if plastic surgery makes you prettier and a revelation by Bravo star Patti Stanger.

The first news story comes from New York, where a doctor showed pictures of people before and after a procedure to monitor their attractiveness/youthfulness. The results showed that those who received plastic surgery were ranked about the same before and after on a beauty scale, though they did appear years younger. The science behind the study is debatable (no people saw both a before and after picture and judged them against each other), but we can't help but think the study misses the point.

For many of our patients at We Know Beauty, the tangible results of the procedure aren't as important as the transformation in self-confidence. It's like saying that a gummy bear breast implant only serves to make the breasts larger, when it's really about making a woman feel confident, beautiful, and no longer self-conscious. We truly believe that this restored self-worth makes women look and feel much more beautiful.

This was evidenced by Patti Stanger's recent post-plastic surgery revelation. The Millionaire Matchmaker herself revealed that she had a breast reduction and lift, an eye lift, and a series of Botox injections. While we think she looks rejuvenated and vibrant, we really appreciate what she said about her internal transformation, "I felt skinny and young again!" That's what we like to hear at We Know Beauty!
