To Thyself Be True

The words spoken by pontificating dad Polonius to earnest son Laertes in Shakespeare's Hamlet might almost just as well be spoken these days by a lot of board certified plastic surgeons.

To be a little bit more specific, right now the online gossip world is still discussing the case of the grown-up fan of teen-fave Justin Bieber who reportedly spent a small fortune to look like his hero. The topic of would-be ex post facto identical twins obviously hits close to home for those of us who perform cosmetic procedures.

Now, it's not at all uncommon for patients to come us to asking for a body part that somewhat resembles that of a particular celebrity -- and there's nothing wrong with that. For one thing, it's a convenient shorthand that even the best plastic surgeons can find very useful from patients who may not otherwise be able to fully describe what they're looking for. As long as the change works in context with their overall appearance, it's all good.

However, we have to admit to being a bit taken aback when someone wants to become a sort of walking reproduction of a particular person. For one thing, it's almost never  possible, and then there are the obvious psychological issues. At We Know Beauty, whether it's revision rhinoplasty, a facelift, or a breast or buttocks augmentation, we're here to help our customers get the most of being themselves, and we think that's probably the best approach.
