"Vampire" Facials: Refreshing Skin Treatment, or Simply Nuts?

A new trend in Beverly Hills plastic surgery that has some eyebrows raising is the so-called "Vampire Facial." Just in time for Halloween, too!

This procedure, which has surprisingly been performed by some top plastic surgeons, includes taking a vial of the patient's own blood, then separating the red cells from the plasma, and then the doctor makes small punctures in the patients face with a special instrument and smears the plasma over the wounds. The plastic surgeons who do this vampire facial claim that plasma has rejuvenating and healing properties that can help keep the face looking younger. However, even though celebrities such as Kim Kardashian have had the procedure done, We Know Beauty's board certified plastic surgeons do not recommend it for keeping the skin looking younger and healthy.

Vampire facials have not been extensively studied in controlled clinical trials, and their efficacy and safety has not been confirmed, either. There are proven, safe and effective ways to keep the skin healthy, as well as cosmetic surgery procedures performed at We Know Beauty that can safely refresh a face that shows signs of aging, such as a facelift in Beverly Hills. But patients can also do their part by using a high-SPF sunscreen daily, eating a balanced diet and practice good hygiene and moisturization of the face.
