Be a Sleeping Beauty

If, like most of us in the Beverly Hills plastic surgery community, you're a beauty aficionado, you're probably aware of the fact that Angelina Jolie's new film from Disney, "Maleficent" opens today. It's a retelling of sorts of the classic 1959 animated "Sleeping Beauty," film from the point of the view of the villainous but beautiful witch who curses a princess to a potentially eternal sleep. (Spoiler alert: charming princes seem to be something of an antidote.)

The movie is getting mixed-to-negative reviews and it'll be interesting to see how the film does at the box office. The main reason we're mentioning it is that, while we love "Sleeping Beauty," we love beauty sleep even more.

The fact of the matter is that Americans work more than people in most other countries and our home lives are pretty busy and stressful as well. In the squeeze for time, sleep gets short shrift, and that's a shame.

The very important health benefits of getting enough sleep aside, who among us hasn't noticed that truly good night's sleep can be the closest thing there is to a facelift in Beverly Hills? Indeed, while many prospective breast augmentation clients might lose sleep over whether they'd like a gummy bear breast implant or some other product, they might be doing just as much good for their appearance by sleeping a bit more.

There are, of course, a number of reasons why sleep improves our appearance, such as preventing dry skin, dark circles and puffiness around the eyes. Still, we think what sleep does in terms of improving our mood is even more important. When we feel better, we look better.

Of course, there's only so much proper rest and a good mood can really do for your appearance.
