Life Under the Microscope

When you work in the sphere of Beverly Hills plastic surgery you're never very far from the spotlight. That's true even if the large majority of our patients -- even those who actually do work in show business -- are very, very far from being household names.

We suppose that's why our first reaction was sympathy when we came across the rather nasty attention Nicole Kidman is getting for her Cannes appearance on behalf of her latest film, "Grace of Monaco." It's bad enough the Grace Kelly biopic is getting pretty terrible reviews for the most part, but now it's Ms. Kidman's appearance that's getting panned. Wagging tongues would have us believe that alleged Botox treatments might have been performed by not quite the best plastic surgeons out there.

We can't help but think of all the nastiness that was visited upon 81 year-old screen legend Kim Novak after her Oscar appearance. True, Kidman is only 46 -- if she were a male actor, she'd be considered to be in the prime of her career -- but the gossipy mavens who decide what is and isn't appropriate for the famous always seem to come down the hardest on the world's most beautiful women. It strikes us as singularly mean-spirited. We build people up, it seems, only so we can tear them down.

The fact of the matter is that, even in the most unflattering pictures we've seen, there are countless women of all ages who'd trade appearances with Nicole Kidman in a heartbeat. Whether or not she's the victim of a facial-filler faux pas or is simply guilty of becoming middle-aged while being one of the world's most beautiful women and portraying another one, perhaps it would be nice if the celebrity press would find something else to carp about. The rest of us can take some comfort in the fact that the moments when we go out in public looking  less than our best won't be covered by the international press.

But, of course, we all want to look our best as much of the time as possible, even if the paparazzi are kind enough to leave us alone. Whether you are interested in facial rejuvenation, revision rhinoplasty, or breast or buttock augmentation, we'd love to hear from you. Please call 310-300-1500.
